Acropolis of Athens
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens, Greece, and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance, the most famous being the Parthenon.
Acropolis in Greek refers to a high point within a city. Many ancient Greek cities had their own Acropolis, which was usually a citadel on top of a hill. The most famous Acropolis is by far that of Athens. During the classical Greek era, it was a sacred space devoted to the cult of the city’s patron goddess, Athena, as well as other local heroes and deities.

The Parthenon, the most famous monument to see in the Acropolis of Athens
The Parthenon is the main monument located on the Acropolis of Athens. It was built in the 5th century BC and is one of the icons of Europe. In its day it was the largest temple of its time and is considered the most important building, still preserved, in classical Greece. But there are many more!
Erechtheion is a set of sanctuaries built between 421 BC. C. and 395 BC. C. One of the most famous things in Erechtheion is the Portico of the Caryatids. There are six columns sculpted with female figures. We believe that it is one of the best things to see in the Acropolis of Athens, although those found today are replicas, since the originals are in the Acropolis Museum for conservation.
This small temple is dedicated to the goddess Athena Nike, protector of Athens. It was built by the prestigious Greek architect Callicrates to commemorate the victory of the Greeks over the Persians. It is probably the best preserved and restored temple on the Acropolis of Athens. It was built between 432 BC. C. and 421 BC. C., just after the Parthenon.
